Technology Accreditation Canada Accredits Engineering Design & Drafting Technology Program at SAIT

June 27, 2017
Technology Accreditation Canada (TAC) today presented the faculty at Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) with a certificate recognizing national program accreditation for the institution’s Engineering Design and Drafting Technology program for a five year period.

TAC accreditation involves a qualified, trained audit team evaluating SAIT’s program against the profession’s national standards. Achieving accreditation provides students, parents and the institution’s administration confidence that the program has met the standards.

The very unique nature of the program, presented by Academic Chair, Brad Mauro and his team, provides students with engineering design and drafting across multiple disciplines and prepares them for job opportunities in a wide range of industry sectors. Lead auditor Devon Biermann-Bosch, P.Tech. (Alberta), auditors Jason Eggen, P.Tech. (Alberta) and Chuck Renkas, A.Sc.T.(Saskatchewan) and auditors-in-training Shannon Kuntz, C.E.T. (Alberta) and Tyler Morrissette, C.E.T. (Alberta), noted the program’s strong connection with industry, involving capstone project judging, resume writing workshops and industry nights, and the capstone project showcase, as excellent networking and skills development opportunities for students.

“As a national leader in the accreditation of engineering technology and applied science educational programs, Technology Accreditation Canada congratulates SAIT’s Engineering Design and Drafting Technology program on achieving its first TAC five-year accreditation,” says TAC Board Chair Peter Portlock. “The program’s alignment with the rigorous requirements of TAC’s national standard of excellence provides assurance to students and their families, faculty, industry and government that the accredited program is relevant and cutting-edge, mirroring today’s industry and technology profession requirements and making graduates of the program highly employable.”

“We are very pleased to have achieved TAC accreditation for our Engineering Design and Drafting Technology program, proving it has practical value to our stakeholders and that the skills and knowledge of our graduates are aligned to the requirements of our industry partners,” says Scott MacPherson, Dean of the School of Construction at SAIT.

The process of accreditation is recognized worldwide as an objective method of assessment and an important tool to identify program strengths and challenges. It also provides faculty an excellent team-building opportunity. This independent seal of approval, represents excellence in education and the high standards of the profession graduates will be joining.
