Canadian Technology Standards (CTS) Development and Revision Policy

December 20, 2022
The TAC Development and Revision Process Chart found in TAC’s Canadian Technology Standards (CTS) Development and Revision Policy, Document No. TACDEV-1, requires TAC to formally post an announcement for the development of a new or revision of a current Canadian Technology Standard (CTS).

TAC has been undergoing an audit process for the past year and a half with the International Engineering Alliance (IEA), with the desired outcome being a transition of the signatory status of the Sydney and Dublin Accords to Technology Professionals Canada (TPC) and eventually to TAC. The purpose of this audit is to ensure that the TAC accreditation framework meets the IEA graduate attributes, as found on the IEA website at www.ieagreements.org/about-us/key-documents, (Graduate Attributes and Professional Competencies (September 2021))

We are announcing that we will be revising two documents as follows:

Document Proposed Change Rationale
General - Technologist (GLOY2021)
  • Adding a Definitions section to align the CTS with IEA graduate attribute terms.
  • Learning outcome to be added to GY05 Ethics, Sustainability, Contracts and Codes to include life-long learning from the IEA graduate attributes.
  • GY08 Health and Safety outcome to be modified to reference disciplines and design solutions.
  • Adding new general learning outcome "Engineering Fundamentals" as GY09
  • Adding new general learning outcome GY10 as "Engineering Tools"

To meet the requirements of IEA so that the TAC accreditation can have signatory status for the Sydney Accord
